Freezing, and Floods, and Fires Oh My!

After just making it back to school from a snow week (!!!) the Pembroke Hill students have been hit with a flurry of chaotic events. The morning of Thursday the 20th started on a normal Tuesday schedule and quickly escalated to false alarms and waterfalls in the hallways!

On Friday, the beginning of the four day weekend turned snow week, a water issue caused a minor flood in our beloved bookstore. All was well through the weekend after the situation was handled, or so it seemed. The far below freezing temperatures caused some pipes in the sprinkler system to freeze and burst.

The sprinkler system is connected to the fire alarm, and the alarm did indeed go off in the middle of red period. Some confused students, myself included, made their way to the bleachers at Bellis gym per usual fire drill procedure. However, the students who stayed in the classrooms and the ones down by the gym were quickly notified of the false alarm. There was no fire, only a couple busted pipes, but water damage is no joke.

By the end of Raider Hour (a flex period at the end of Tuesday) the bookstore was almost entirely cleared out and Mrs. Kubicki’s poor ducks had been rained on. The end of the language hall hosted a small version of the torrential waterfall pouring from the walkway connecting the middle school to the library. Both the library and bookstore are now shut down for the time being.

Hopefully nothing is permanently damaged, and it is fixed quickly! If not anything else, it made an exciting first day back!
