After the Eagles beat the Commanders in the NFC championship, the Philly fans were excited to celebrate out on the town, but not like normal football fans. They celebrate by climbing poles, lighting things on fire, and breaking glass windows. On this specific night, an 18 year old student from Temple University climbed to the top of a light pole to celebrate, promptly fell off, was left with a fatal brain injury, and passed away two days later in the hospital. The mayor of Philadelphia, Cherelle Parker, pleaded to her citizens to not climb light poles after the Super Bowl to prevent events like this, but that did not stop them. While no injuries have been reported, not only did multiple people still climb poles, some fans have been arrested for crimes like assaulting an officer, vandalism, disorderly conduct, and reckless endangerment. And we can’t forget about the shooting at the Chiefs Super Bowl parade last year that left 1 killed and 22 injured. Recent events leave people wondering: when did celebrating football become so violent and reckless?
