Cupinis has been a Kansas City staple since its opening in 2003. It has developed an impressive reputation throughout Kansas City, including being featured on The Food Network, USA Today, Southern Living, and rated by Zagat. It is located in Westport, just a 4 minute drive from Pembroke Hill’s upper school. Cupinis serves authentic Italian food using techniques straight from Italy!
As you walk in, you order at the front of the restaurant. You are greeted by the friendly staff and a wide variety of options to choose from: pastas, pizzas, sandwiches, chicken entrees, soups, and salads. Once you place your order and pay, you are given a number and sent to look for an empty table. The main dining room is open and bright with a large window facing the street. It isn’t super big so as it fills up there are more tables in the back, but that dining room is a lot darker and not as lively. Around 6:00-7:30pm Cupinis starts to get fairly busy and you may have to wait for a table. Typically the food comes out within 5-15 minutes of ordering, but when it is busier it can take a lot longer.
The food is delicious and everything is made from scratch! Some of their appetizers include bruschetta, toasted ravioli, and garlic cheese bread. My personal favorite entrees are their “filled pastas”, including tortellini, ravioli, and lasagna. Their lasagna is one of their signature dishes and is some of the best I’ve ever had! It is made with fresh pasta and Cupinis’ marinara sauce that is made in house. Their pizza is also very flavorful and soft. To conclude your meal there are plenty of Italian dessert options displayed in a case by the order desk in the front. From cannolis to tiramisu, you can’t go wrong when it comes to dessert.
