If you’ve recently seen 200 or so people running through the Country Club Plaza, it’s more than likely the Kansas Run Club (KRC). Over the past few months, the club has grown increasingly popular, amassing over 10,000 followers on social media. But Jacob Bentzinger, the founder of the club, says that KRC is about more than just running, it’s about building a community. And with notable sponsors like Lululemon and New Balance funding weekly give-aways, the community has become larger than ever.
Each Wednesday at 7 p.m., KRC members meet outside the Lululemon in the Plaza to run a modest 3 miles. There is no prior experience needed to join the club, and runners are welcomed to run as slow or as fast as they want. Most weeks, members will stay anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour after their run to socialize with friends and meet new people.
The KRC is by no means the first of its kind; running clubs across America have become a welcomed way to meet new people in your community while getting in shape! For many, the runs have become the highlight of their week.
