Kansas City is expecting huge developments in the Berkley Riverfront. Last summer, Port KC—the face of the riverfront expansion—announced an $800 million development project aimed at reviving the historic and underutilized area along the Missouri river. Kansas City residents will see the project unfold over the next ten years, with construction officially beginning sometime in late 2024.
Approximately 2 million square feet of active commercial, retail, and residential space are promised by the concept. Significantly, the project will include about 1,000 multifamily residential units, 10% of which will be set aside for those making 50% or less of the regional median income. This will help to meet the critical need for affordable housing. The recently finished CPKC Stadium, home of the Kansas City Current, serves as the focal point of this renovation. The concept also places a strong emphasis on developing lively public areas, such as a brand-new town plaza, a promenade along the river, and sizable green spaces for leisure and neighborhood gatherings.
By reestablishing Kansas City’s historical ties to the Missouri River, the expansion hopes to boost the city’s economy and provide an exciting new place to visit.
