Are you applying to college? Are you wondering where you fit in with all your peers? Are you anxious to see how you measure up to all the applicants who came before you? Well, don’t. Let me introduce you all to Scoir Scattergrams, a unique dot-plot graph for every college that lists every applicant’s GPA, standardized test score, and whether each applicant got rejected, waitlisted, or approved. Wondering how you can access these comprehensive graphs? Well, I’m not going to tell you, because trust me when I say that they are absolute poison for your mind. I made the mistake of discovering the scattergrams one Sunday night, and then fell down the rabbit hole of seeing where I lay on the graph for every single one of my top colleges. The result? Ending up in near tears as I looked at scattergram after scattergram where my little star was surrounded by red triangles, signifying that every single applicant who had the same scores and GPA as me had been, devastatingly, rejected. Did looking at this scattergram result in a mini breakdown? Maybe. But that’s no one’s business but my own. And now I’ve made it my mission to stop prospective seniors from making the same mistake I did. So, once again, if you’re wondering where you measure up to applicants who came before you, don’t. Just leave it alone. Trust in yourself and your abilities, not validation from stupid dot-plot graphs. Trust me.
