Amongst APs, finals, and overall end of the school year morale, Bridgerton fans could not have been more ecstatic for the release of the show’s Season 3: Part 1. Personally, I thought this was gonna be exactly what I needed after that unfortunate Thursday Spanish AP Exam. But at the end of both parts that were released, I was disappointed in the lack of screen time for the main characters, side plots that never succumbed to anything, and Penelope Featherington’s 1800s gel x nails.
Amazon Prime saved the day with its release of My Lady Jane–starring Emily Bader and Edward Bluemel. Playing Jane and Guildford, the characters gave the audience everything. While the romance was top tier, the storyline arc was also incredibly well thought out. The modern period drama shows a world in which Queen Jane was never beheaded and actually ruled longer than nine days. It brings in a fantasy perspective by creating characters who are “Ethian”–people who turn into animals–and seen as impure.
I went into this show with very low expectations. If I’m being honest, I only watched it because the first episode premiered on TikTok.
But My Lady Jane was five stars for sure–I definitely recommend it if you’re searching for a show with romance, drama, complex characters, and fantasy!
