The Chiefs have done it again. They are on their way to their seventh straight AFC Championship game after a 23-14 win over the Texans. Although it was not as thrilling as the Chiefs’ win against the Texans in 2019, it was still an entertaining game. The Chiefs started the game off hot with a 63-yard kick return by Nikko Remigio. Despite great field position, the Chiefs ended up settling for a field goal. The Texans quickly tied up the game with a field goal of their own. Another field goal by the Chiefs in the middle of the first quarter set the score at 6-3. There was no score until Patrick Mahomes led the offense on a 5-play, 55-yard drive near the end of the half. A 1-yard touchdown run by Kareem Hunt put the Chiefs up by 10. With time scarce, the Texans marched down the field and put up another 3 before time expired.
The second half started with touchdowns from both teams, bringing the score to 20-12 in favor of the Chiefs. The Chiefs scored another field goal in the middle of the 4th to raise the score to 23-12. On the Texans’ last drive, down 11, they strung together a drive, marching deep into Chiefs territory. A sack by George Karlaftis forced the Texans to settle for three. For the second time this season, Leo Chenal blocked a field goal, which essentially iced the game. Although they won, the Chiefs must play much better this weekend if they want to advance to the Super Bowl. The Chiefs will host the Bills on Sunday at 5:30 to battle for a spot in the Super Bowl.
